Top logistics specialist SBS Worldwide has been celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this month.

From August 19 the company, one of the largest in the world still operating as a privately-owned and managed company in the UK, has been celebrating its anniversary by posting facts from the previous 30 years on social networking site Twitter and an online video game has been made, where players operate an SBS freight ship and have to collect cargo while being pursued by Somali pirates.

SBS Worldwide offers global freight forwarding and supply chain solutions to clients around the world and has an established reputation.

Steve Walker launched the business in 1983 as S Black Shipping, operating between the UK and US, a trade that is still one of the firm’s strongest markets.

It has expanded into airfreight, express and supply chain services and now offers a global service.

In 1988 the company’s name changed to SBS Worldwide and in 1990 it opened an airfreight division at London’s Heathrow airport.

An office in Chicago was set up in 1998 and now the company has four facilities in the US and offices and warehouses in Hong Kong and China.

Founder and Chairman Steve Walker claims the secret of the company’s success is innovation.

Walker said: “Innovation drives business. Don’t expect your service offering to remain the same and still be acceptable. The competition always catches up.”

He added: ““Every step of the way, we have expanded to service the business needs of our customers. We have grown in partnership with them – our success depends on their success

“We have developed a game changer in our new software, eDC.

“Flexibility, adaptability and creativity have made us all think differently and offer solutions beyond just shipping freight. This is the innovation our customers are looking for.”
