The Freight Transport Association (FTA) announced the introduction of a new awards scheme this week, which will reward logistics companies on their Carbon Reduction levels.

The Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) Awards are developed to recognise the efforts of green leaders in the freight industry, recognising the efforts of individual LCRS member to reduce their freight carbon emissions.

The awards will be presented at the FTA’s Annual Logistics Carbon Reduction Conference, held in May 2013. There will be four winners under the following categories:

·         Carbon reduction through fuel efficiency (sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres)

·    Carbon reduction through innovative fleet management

·    Carbon reduction through use of low carbon transport modes

·    Carbon reduction through use of alternative low carbon fuels and technologies

"Over the last three years, the LCRS has been industry’s leading voluntary initiative for operators to record, report and reduce carbon emissions. We now want to go further and give LCRS members the opportunity to be recognised as leaders in fuel efficiency and carbon reduction through these inaugural awards," said Rachael Dillon, FTA's Climate Change Policy Manager.

The company has recently opened applications for the award, where UK companies who are part of the FTA’s Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme with a green freight initiative can put their name forward to be considered. The closing date in 5pm on January 25th 2013.
