FedEx announced it is expanding the availability of its SenseAware, which provides customers with near real-time tracking and increased supply chain visibility into their shipments.

First announced in November 2009, the next-generation information service was initially available to customers in the healthcare and life sciences industries. Now it is available to customers in all industries—such as aerospace, the arts, financial institutions and more—who can benefit from this added level of visibility and monitoring.

SenseAware  is a comprehensive tracking service that provides near real-time data about customer shipments and the ability to share that information collaboratively with business partners.

A multi-sensor device, deeply integrated with a powerful web-based application, enables customers to stay connected to their shipments. The SenseAware service can provide:

  • The shipment’s current location
  • Accurate temperature readings
  • When a shipment is opened or if the contents have been exposed to light
  • Relative humidity and barometric pressure readings

SenseAware can be easily adopted without infrastructure or large managed-service commitments. The added flexibility of the SenseAware device enables it to be used for single shipments or with large palletized shipments.

Customers simply set up a shipment in the SenseAware application and place the activated device in the package before shipping.
