Pharmacy and health and beauty retail chain Boots UK has extended its supply chain contract with DHL by five years until 2018.

Boots’ network of national cross dock, chill and transport operations will be managed by DHL at Boots main site in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. DHL will handle its two chill distribution centres and fourteen cross dock operations.

The extended contract brings a renewed focus on delivering greater efficiencies through initiatives including backhauling and shared high-street deliveries.

Simon Macdonald, Distribution Contract Manager, Boots UK, said: “DHL has adopted a collaborative and value-added approach with our business, and we are pleased to partner with them for the next stage of our operation as we work together to grow our business.”

In the UK, Boots operates about 2,500 stores and employs some 60,000 staff.
