This issue is jam-packed with insight and innovation, featuring big industry names and some of the latest exciting developments, reflecting the varying world of logistics and the technology that is increasingly at the forefront of these changes.

In our lead piece, Phil Couchman, Chief Executive Officer of the UK’s largest express delivery company, DHL Express (an arm of the €50 billion plus turnover global giant Deutsche Post), talks about what he learnt from his time on TV show Undercover Boss, how his company is adapting to a changing market and offers us his insight into the future of the industry.

Technology takes centre stage as we look at how and why one of the biggest supermarket chains in the UK, Morrisons, rolled out electronic tablets – identical to those used by consumers – across its warehouses, stores and supply chain, replacing a paper-based inventory system.

This is a follow up to a piece about industry-specific, ruggedised hand-held devices adapted for use in the supply chain that we ran in October’s edition. This article, therefore, shows the opposite side of the coin, highlighting the reality of where devices like iPads are being utilised in the supply chain.

We are also joined by industry whizz-kid and author Charles Chase, pioneer of sales forecasting solutions who currently works for SAS, innovating Demand Driven Forecasting solutions for the likes of Nestlé and Miller Coors.

As we approach the end of the year, this is an issue gleaming with the light of an advancing industry.

2014 is going to be a cracker.
