What does Target’s latest high-profile appointment actually mean for logistics?
Target Corp has hired Benjamin Cook, who formerly worked for Apple as Americas head of logistics and supply chain. His role will reportedly be senior vice president of global logistics, inventory allocation and replenishment.
Target recently announced that Cook will be responsible for inbound and outbound supply chain processes, as well as carrier transportation and last-mile delivery. He will also be responsible for inventory and merchandise planning.
Target appointing Cook at this time highlights the retailer’s plans to become more competitive as more and more shoppers head online and retailers across the country adjust in order to compete.
Arthur Valdez, who heads up the company’s supply chain and logistics operations (following a controversial departure from online retail giant Amazon) said in a statement. “Ben’s expertise and proven track record in cutting cost and reducing complexity in the name of speed will be an incredible asset to our team.”
