Technology companies fighting labour trafficking receive prestigious award
Two tech companies focused on improving global supply chains have won the grand prize in Partnership for Freedom’s challenge to create methods for fighting labour trafficking.
Sustainability Incubator and Trace Register were awarded $250,000 which they will use to support a digital tool that enables seafood wholesalers to confirm fish hasn’t been caught or processed using unpaid labour.
A number of technology-oriented supply chain monitoring companies are building new tools that assist companies by enabling them to verify that products are legally and safely sourced. The Partnership for Freedom has also drawn support for the Rethink Supply Chains challenge from Goldman Sachs Group Inc.’s 10,000 Women initiative and Steven Spielberg’s Righteous Persons Foundation.
Trace Register CEO Phil Werdal said: “We look forward to working with Humanity United and Sustainability Incubator, as well as many producers, suppliers and retailers who are committed to eliminating forced labor from the seafood supply chain.”
