Royal Mail to open 229 delivery offices on Sundays before Christmas
Royal Mail will open 229 delivery offices on Sundays before Christmas to offer more convenience for customers picking up mail and parcels. This includes the customer service points at 100 offices already opening seven days a week as part of a pilot.
Offices taking part have the highest parcels volumes across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Royal Mail’s network of almost 1,400 delivery offices is currently open six days a week. Many other offices in the main cities and towns also have increased weekday opening hours in the run up to Christmas. Details are on the ‘something for you cards’ when customers are not at home to receive mail
Sue Whalley, Chief Operations Officer at Royal Mail, said: “We are continuing to be more customer responsive and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online, especially at our busiest time of the year. We hope it provides a helping hand for customers during the very busy festive season.
”Customers can also help us by posting early and by the recommended posting dates and using the postcode on all mail they are posting.”
Customers not at home when delivery is attempted can also arrange a free redelivery to their home or a neighbour via www.royalmail.com/redelivery
Almost half of Royal Mail’s UK network of almost 1,400 delivery offices already opens later on a Wednesday evening to enable people to collect items that could not be delivered because no one was at home when delivery was attempted.
Some delivery offices will have additional midweek late opening in December. Customers should check with their local delivery office.
In September, Royal Mail launched a trial of 100 delivery offices to open on Sunday to offer more convenience and is also piloting Sunday deliveries in the M25 area.
