New tool to choose the right WMS
Rocket Consulting has developed an online survey tool that allows users to select the Warehouse Management System (WMS) that best suits their needs.
The online ‘Which WMS’ Survey enables customers to laser in on the right WMS through a series of detailed questions, that focus on everything from Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCCs) and serial number tracking, to quality checks.
Rocket Consulting specialises in supply chain and mobility consultancy and focuses on helping business create high performance supply chains and effective mobile workforces built on and around Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) software.
Customers can also choose whether a criteria is required, desired, available in the future, or not required. The survey identified that customers sought efficiency, customer focus and operational benefits are the top WMS requirements.
Lewis Marston, CEO of Rocket Consulting said: “What WMS is a useful tool in enabling customers to evaluate their warehouse management needs against available SAP platforms.
Working efficiently with a WMS should include strategies that take into account workload management, mixed pallet splitting, safety controls, RIFD support, and multi pallet put-away. The WMS should be able to log, process, and record data from these variables and enable real time evaluation and action.
A WMS that enhances customer-centric services should focus on specific picking rules for individual customers, such as not allowing mixed pallets or enforcing stock segregation.
Operational support from a WMS should come in the form of exception management, stock write-off, and inventory counting methods, alongside expiry date controls.
Marston added: “It also offers valuable insight into the supply chain landscape, such as the emphasis currently being placed on labour management tools and the need to understand workforce costs. Insight of this scale informs the WMS of the future.”
