Amazon's unmanned drones plan: claims and criticism (with videos)

Amazon are planning to use unmanned drones, similar to those used by the military, in delivering packages to customers.

The online retailer's Chief Executive Jeff Bezos has claimed that it would mean people receiving packages in just 30 minutes

During a TV appearance, Bezos showed a video where the tiny robotic devices, known as octocopters, picked up items in small yellow buckets and flew them through the air.

Speaking to CBS, Bezos said: "I know this looks like science fiction. It's not.

"We can do half-hour delivery ... and we can carry objects, we think, up to 5lbs, which covers 86 percent f the items that we deliver."

However, some industry commentators have highlighted what they deem to be problems with this ambitious idea.
