Tech and agility 'vital for supply chains' - Elanders

Who is Elanders?

Elanders is an end-to-end provider of third-party supply logistics, as well as print and packaging services.  We are part of the Elanders Group which is a global Swedish-owned business. We are present in 20 countries worldwide.

We have been printing in the UK for more than 130 years and have many major blue-chip clients from the publishing, automotive and industrial sectors. 

We have recently extended and invested in our supply chain business, as part of our global expansion in this area. We have introduced the Bergen Logistics model which is a specialist service for fashion and lifestyle brands, delivering a complete omni-channel service for logistics, pick/pack and distribution activities and this also includes fulfilling e-commerce orders direct to consumers for many of our clients.

The plan is for continued investment in the area of supply chain and we anticipate increasing our warehouse space as we grow our supply chain business.

Briefly detail your role at Elanders

My role has two parts. The day job is managing director for all activities in the UK and the second part is fulfilling my responsibilities as a member of the global management team for Elanders Group.

How important is an agile supply chain?

This is extremely important as the supply-side has moved quickly to become a demand-side approach and this is driven by the rapid growth in e-commerce, to meet the demand of consumer requirements.  

The agility allows for flexing up and down in peak and more quiet times to ensure service level agreements (SLA) are met and the consumer experience is a positive one. By providing an agile and consumer focused service, we help our clients retain and grow their business with their consumers. Our single point of integration across multiple warehouses provides added agility to our customers, meaning they have visibility of all inventory, orders and shipments across all facilities, worldwide.

Why is intelligent tech so key?

Intelligent technology is required to support the agility in operations and to consistently meet the demand of a rapidly changing market. This being physical retail and e-commerce. Intelligent technology helps us plan our resources, meet customer SLAs, monitor inventory, track every shipment and integrate with our customers’ systems to ensure the flow of data and information is done in real-time.

We are constantly researching automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies to add value for our business and our customers.

How do you enhance customer experience?

By being responsive, flexible, agile and focused on delivering on SLAs. This ensures that, not only our clients’ experience is positive, but also that our clients’ customers have a positive experience.  We want to ensure that the time and money invested in attracting a new customer is well spent. Our services support this by providing a quality solution that helps our clients retain and grow their business with their end customers.
