Smart Labels Bringing Real-time Visibility to Every Stage of the Supply Chain
As air freight logistics navigate global volatility, Tag-N-Trac demonstrates how agentic AI and digitalisation can be used to improve workflow efficiency

In a world of growing demand, logistics companies need to adapt to modern concerns or modern politics.

The industry is in a constant state of change, with businesses facing policy shifts or increasing demand that they cannot manage with traditional solutions.

Tag-N-Trac was founded five years ago with the aim of digitising logistics and bringing it into a more modern era.

Increased visibility

When Tag-N-Trac launched its disposable smart labels, it made it easier for logistics companies to gain real-time tracking across multimodal transportation, as well as environmental monitoring.

“The logistics industry has been using barcode scanning for the past 20 years and as the technology is evolving, we wanted to modernise the process and bring more automation into it,” explains Venu Gutlapalli, Chief Digital Officer and Co-Founder of Tag-N-Trac.

For years, a lack of visibility has led to untraceable losses, customer complaints and extra costs. At first, companies were hesitant to digitise due to extra costs, but smart labels help cut costs in the long term.

“With the smart labels, it simplifies the entire process and offers full freedom in deployment. That's what we are transforming,” Venu states.

Tag-N-Trac’s smart labels keep supply chain leaders informed of every step of the journey, providing them with the location and conditions of their shipment across transit and while sitting in warehouses.

AI in supply chains

As demand has increased, so has the role of AI in the supply chain. It is being used to train digital models or find anomalies in data, spotting these issues faster  than manual entries.

“Nowadays, you cannot have a product without some AI playing some role in this. At Tag-n-Trac, we mainly focus on data acquisition.

“AI can look at all data points and analyse this data at speed,” explains Venu.

“You can accomplish more and provide better service to your customer by leveraging the automation it will provide.”

Tag-N-Trac partnered with Kuehne and Nagel almost four years ago, with a plan to digitise the piece-level logistics of air cargo. Now, it is working to aid across more of its business units.

“The world is always growing and changing faster than ever, which is why we decided we need to have the technology to support our specially trained people to focus much more on the customers,” explains Andreas Nyman, SVP Global Head of Aerospace, Air Logistics at Kuehne and Nagel.

Looking ahead

The world of logistics is becoming more complex and disruptive due to geopolitical and environmental challenges impacting ‘cost of dissatisfaction’ from the customers. The only way to gain customer trust back is by providing transparency with data driven decisions.

Technology must advance, ensuring simplicity with backward compatibility while forward looking for its customers and partners.

For Tag-N-Trac, this is what is driving its operations.

“The key to a successful deployment of any technology is impact to the bottom line, boosting competitiveness and customer satisfaction" Venu concludes.

“We want to be the pioneer in this segment of transformation, so we want to scale this further.”
