Gartner unveils 2025 Global Supply Chain Top 25, recognising leading organisations and identifying key performance trends driving their success

Schneider Electric has retained its top position in the 21st annual Gartner Top 25 global supply chain, while NVIDIA has risen to second position.

Gartner has confirmed its ranking of the top 25 global supply chains, which highlights those leading supply chain organisations and discusses those underlying trends at the heart of their performance.

Schneider Electric retained its top position in the rankings for the third consecutive year, while NVIDIA improved its position to land second in this year's rankings.

Simon Bailey, VP Analyst with the Gartner Supply Chain practice, says: "This year, leaders are differentiating themselves from the pack by integrating the latest AI, developing autonomous operations and stewarding resources.

"Leading supply chains clearly tie sustainability to fundamental business outcomes, such as cost optimisation and risk mitigation. As a result, we are seeing many examples of water stewardship and circular innovation."

Transformation and innovation drive success

Schneider Electric started a brand new three-year transformation journey centred around four key pillars: people, planet, customers and performance. As part of this new programme, the company has already made significant strides in industrial automation, integrating advanced technologies such as AI.

"Schneider Electric's innovative culture has embraced AI in a manner that embraces employee ideas for use cases, with guidance from supply chain leaders on the highest priority areas to apply the technology for customer, revenue and productivity gains," adds Simon.

"This ensures both a collaborative and strategic approach to AI deployments."

The Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 honours exceptional, sustained supply chain excellence through its Masters category, reserved for companies demonstrating long-term maturity and leadership.

Masters receive their own distinct recognition while remaining part of the annual assessment. To retain Masters status, companies must achieve one of the five highest composite scores for at least seven of the past 10 years.

Amazon, Apple, P&G and Unilever all retain their Masters category status this year.

Three key trends shaping the future

The top 25 in full In 2025, the Top 25 and Masters companies embraced three macro trends:

Agentic AI

Agentic AI has emerged as the transformative tool for supply chain leaders. Dubbed by many as the "next frontier of innovation", the advancement is extending what was first introduced by Gen AI through the use of automation of decision making and completing actions to obtain its goals without the need for constant human intervention.

By embedding the creative aspects of Gen AI with the problem-solving approaches of traditional AI, agentic AI is enabled to conduct complex tasks in dynamic environments, designed to deliver autonomous supply chain decision-making and execution.

Agentic AI can be used across the supply chain, supporting real-time sensing, decision-making and execution. Some examples where agentic AI can potentially transform the function include dynamic demand forecasting, supplier selection and route optimisation.

Autonomous Operations

In sophisticated supply chain environments, the gap between basic automation and truly autonomous operations continues to widen. Where automation addresses individual processes, autonomous operations orchestrate multiple activities simultaneously, delivering substantial productivity gains.

Autonomous operations assume responsibility for monitoring and process optimisation, liberating workers from repetitive tasks while enhancing safety by reducing exposure to dangerous environments. These systems drive business performance through automated decision-making and execution, incorporating human oversight to ensure consistency and mitigate skill shortage bottlenecks.

Implementation spans diverse supply chain functions, encompassing fully automated manufacturing, warehousing, strategic planning and customer service operations.

Water Stewardship

While top-tier companies leverage autonomous operations and agentic AI to enhance decision-making and execution, they simultaneously acknowledge water stewardship as a strategic imperative. With water becoming integral to corporate and national security, many Top 25 organisations distinguish themselves through comprehensive water stewardship strategies, encompassing management, conservation and basin restoration initiatives.

Water's strategic importance extends across industrial sectors, affecting agricultural, manufacturing and data centre value chains through its essential roles in cultivation, production and cooling processes. Top 25 companies showcase leadership by embedding water considerations into critical strategic decisions, including facility location and supply chain architecture.

Through systematic assessment of water sources and discharge patterns, alignment of water management with expansion strategies and risk evaluations, and adherence to regulatory frameworks, these organisations strengthen their water stewardship while reinforcing supply chain operational resilience.
