AWS Supply Chain Sustainability Simplifies ESG Compliance
The digitisation of supply chains is proving crucial for optimising costs and driving sustainable growth.
As such, the inefficiencies of manually managing complex regulations and collecting and auditing supplier data, are becoming more apparent.
This creates new challenges in maintaining sustainability compliance across global supply chains.
Amazon’s Global Trade and Product Compliance (GTPC) team, which is responsible for validating AWS data centre hardware for regulatory compliance, has successfully leveraged AWS Supply Chain Sustainability to improve trading partner interactions and streamline the data collection process.
Its detailed data request compliance tracking will save GTPC approximately 3,000 operational hours per year.
A tool to simplify ESG auditing
AWS identifies the key challenges to a manual approach, which include data security vulnerabilities, fragmented coordination, disjointed communication and a lack of metrics.
Instead, AWS Supply Chain Sustainability simplifies the process of requesting, collecting, and auditing ESG data from suppliers and trading partners.
With the tool, it is easier to distribute data collection forms and request details such as product life cycle assessments.
Suppliers simply fill out the forms, and their responses are collected in a secure, auditable repository.
This streamlined model enhances data protection, eliminates redundant data and enables flexible workload allocation.
"Efficient and user-friendly" supply chain management
“GTPC is using AWS Supply Chain Sustainability module to manage and keep an audit history of the collection of compliance artefacts from AWS suppliers," says Nishant Jain, Senior Manager Certifications at GTPC.
"The Sustainability module is an efficient and user-friendly tool which helps us avoid duplicate communications with partners and data requests for a specific part number, and provide real-time status of requests to the whole team," Nishant continues.
"It additionally improves the supplier experience as they are able to view all compliance artefacts needed from them in a single view.”
Improved visibility mitigates ESG risks
AWS Supply Chain Sustainability provided seamless communication between GTPC and its suppliers, enabling in-depth conversations and timely responses.
It also improved visibility, meaning GTPC could identify sustainable practices improvement ideas to mitigate regulatory non-compliance risks.
AWS Supply Chain also facilitated auditable communication between the GTPC and its trading partners, ensuring a clear record of interactions and exchanges.
This also improved security compliance, providing a secure and reliable method to transfer data, whilst GTPC was also able to track the progress of artefact collection, adjusting its data requests if required to.
This type of visibility ensured GTPC was aware of any changes, challenges or issues with their trading partner network that could affect its regulatory compliance progress.
